In Home Newborn Photos vs Studio Newborn Photography
Before baby arrives, I encourage you do your research on the type of photo you are looking for when it comes to capturing the first few week’s of your newborn. Would you prefer to have more of that storytelling feel or are you looking for more artwork? When you think of lifestyle, think of photos in your home, maybe in the baby nursery or in the master bedroom with your dog (or two) joining. Lifestyle tends to focus on real-life moments capturing people in natural settings. When it comes to studio photography, the photos can range from the more natural look to much more extravagant and posed. Studio photography can run the full spectrum but what is nice is that the opportunities for creativity are endless. While there are pros and cons for both, the great thing about studio photography is that it provides a unique, eye-catching, and elevating newborn experience.
Why might parents choose an in-home session?
The most obvious reason would be of course the convenience. Parents do not have to worry about all the things it requires to get out the door. After having a baby, sometimes traveling is not easy, especially if it was a difficult birth. So having the photographer come to the home can just be easier. Being in your own environment also can be less stress for parents and baby. Some parents may find it easier to have all the baby necessities nearby to rather than packing the diaper bag and possibly forgetting to pack an item. With an in home session, it’s all about the simplicity.
Things to consider for an in home session?
With an in home session, a photographer is not in a familiar environment and has little control over several elements. First, lighting is very important for photographers so an in home session can be a challenge if the home doesn’t have lots of windows the allow in natural light or if the photographer does not have lighting equipment to create the natural lighting that is paramount for newborn photography. A photographer may need access to several parts of then home to determine the best location for photos, unlike a studio that a photographer has full control over. Of course, a photographer will work with what they have but nothing surpasses the kind of light a photographer can create in her own studio.
The benefits to studio photography.
Studio photography allows the photographer behind the lens to produce a work of art. All the elements of studio photography are at the photographers finger tips. Nothing beats having control of the background, the props, and the lighting. Taking pictures in a perfectly lit setting gets you better results with just the right amount of light and diffusion. Studios tend to be professionally-curated and contains a more neutral setting that brings with it a sense of calmness. You’ll find with studio photography there are less distractions and all the attention is on baby while the parents can relax and let the photographer take over. A studio is temperature-controlled, allowing the room to be a bit warmer for the baby to settle in nicely and feel relaxed. Let’s also not forget there is no need in tidying up your home to just take newborn photos. Why have that added stress when a in studio newborn session is an easy choice without any extra work.
