Studio Newborn Photoshoot
Babies don’t keep! A well-known saying that is vividly true. Nothing stays the same when raising children, especially those initial weeks after birth and bringing home your newborn. I know capturing those little details of your baby is so important and that’s where I come in and not only catch the little wrinkles in the toes and tiny eyelashes that shine but I ensure the raw and real details of your newborn are beautiful because I truly focus and listen to your baby.
The goal is to be comfortable and relaxed….your baby is the boss of my newborn photo sessions. You will never see me position a baby in any uncomfortable poses. I am a more natural posing photographer but I do love color so bows, blankets, wraps, etc are always a beautiful touch to newborn shoots. My desire is to orchestrate precious moments of baby or baby and family that allow me to truly show love, beauty, and warmth.
I have answered some common questions below that will hopefully help ease any concerns or answer any questions you may have about a newborn photo shoot.
When should I book? You can book with me anytime. Before the baby has arrived or after. If you book before, I will block time around the due date and once the baby is born, you let me know immediately and we will work together to arrange a date/time for the photo shoot. If you wait till after the birth, I highly recommend you reach out to me within a few days of birth so we can find the right time for the photo session to capture the finer details of a newborn. I do everything I can to remain flexible.
When is a good time for a newborn photo shoot? I tend to start sessions around 10:30am. This time tends to work well for families, allowing time to get ready in the morning before the shoot. This time also seems to work well for newborns. Expect the photo session to last between 2-3 hours. Don’t forget, I let the baby be the boss. You will never see me in a rush but if you do have a time commitment, please let me know ahead of the photo shoot so I can plan accordingly.
What to wear if taking photos with baby? First and foremost, Be You! Comfortable and coordinated is recommended. Now coordinated does not mean everyone has to wear the same color but wear colors that work together. The color black tends to do well in photos. Stay away from graphics and bold/neon colors. I have backdrops of colors White/Grey/Black/Cream and will use them based off the colors in clothing. I shoot most of my newborn shoot in white for the fresh, clean look.
What about banklets/wraps/clothing? I have an armoire full of just that. Many different shades of color and material. I typically chose a few different variations before the photo shoot and prior to undressing the baby, I will display the variations and walk through my ideas. I also try and capture some newborn shoots of baby in just a diaper to capture those finer details (wrinkles, baby rolls, birth marks, belly button). If you have a special item, such as grandma’s scarf, a wedding tiara, baby blanket sewn by auntie), bring them and we will look to incorporate it in the photos.
